Lesson Sprout / FIELD NOTES
Make an adult ESL dialogue worth practicing
A useful classroom dialogue gives learners a reason to speak.
Choose a real outcome
Returning an item, changing an appointment, or asking for directions gives a conversation a practical goal. Avoid adding unfamiliar vocabulary just to make the script longer.
Build in a choice
After the first reading, let learners change a size, a time, a preference, or a reason. They should need to listen to their partner rather than recite every line.
Review the level yourself
A generated level label is a teaching target, not a validated CEFR assessment. Check sentence length, idioms, and vocabulary against your class.
